A Study on the Supply-demand Situation of Medicare Services for Basic Direction of Medicare Policy

Abstract
People¢¥s interest has been on the rise together with economic growth. Special interest has been focused on the powerful demand for improved medical care, preceding any other field in priority. Possession of medicare resources and execution of medicare policy in our country, however, lags behind not only our economic growth but far below those of the advanced countries. Accordingly, it is urgent that we establish a stable and well-balanced supply of medicare based on a comprehensive and basic policy of public health in our country. Special attention should be paid, in seeking a way for solution of the issue, to the .problems arising from shortage of the absolute number of medical service personnel.
The expansion of opportunity for medical care in line with the policy for medical insurance for every citizen has led to give unnecessary medical services due to the excessive demand for medical care from the people. Through establishment of reasonable allowance of medicare cost to remedy such shortcomings, priority should be placed on readjustment of supply and demand and protection of the old and the needy.
The insurance policy oriented toward treatment should be replaced by preventive medical practice and projects for home health care and management of old folks¢¥ homes be strengthened. Ultimately, projects contributing to cost-reduction and enhancement of public health are needed.
